Empowering Advice From Rose-Marie For International Women's Day

Empowering Advice From Rose-Marie For International Women's Day

We’re a woman-founded brand led by a 80% female workforce, so celebrating International Women’s Day (March 8th) is a no-brainer here at RMS—in fact, we celebrate for a week, as one day is never enough. The UN’s global theme this year is “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”— and we couldn’t agree more. When we empower each other by lifting each other’s spirits, we are unstoppable.

So all week, we’re celebrating the mentors and hype women who lift us up and never hold back on giving great advice—like our founder, Rose-Marie Swift. She is an empowering force for our entire community because she tells it like it is and uses her wisdom and experience to offer solutions and solace.

We hope you all take this week to hype up the women in your life. Here’s some advice from our number-one hype woman.

Q: How do I keep my skin looking beautiful like yours?

Rose-Marie: "Your skin is a mirror to your gut, so whatever’s going on in the gut is going to show up on the face."

Empower Move from Rose-Marie:
"I take probiotics and prebiotics every day for my gut health. Your skin is a mirror to your gut, so whatever’s going on in the gut is going to show up on the face. I avoid sugar, I avoid bad food in general—no processed foods. With my skincare, less is more. I’m a big advocate of coconut oil, I use it to take off my makeup."

Q: Help, I’m getting dark spots!

Rose-Marie: “If you have spots, don’t pile a lot of makeup on,  the less the better.”

Empower Move from Rose-Marie:
“I suggest the ReEvolve Liquid Foundation. I love this product, it has extra coverage. I like to put it on with a wet sponge to thin it out and make it more sheer. Touch up the spots with a brush and do little touches, bit by bit, then set it with powder. If you have spots, don’t pile a lot of makeup on,  the less the better. Then go in and touch up the spot itself, not the whole face—it looks too heavy.”

Q: How can I be more positive towards aging?

Rose-Marie: “Do not pressure yourself. Embrace your beauty and what you have—and work with it.”

Empower Move from Rose-Marie:
“I do not like the word ‘anti-aging’ — I think it’s aging just thinking about anti-aging. If you look back at pictures of yourself when you were younger, what do we say? We usually say to ourselves, ‘Oh my God, I was so pretty, what was wrong with me?’ And I just want to tell all of you, do not pressure yourself into thinking you don’t look good when you look at yourself in the mirror. Because believe me, when you look back on the years when you’re older  you’ll say ‘Oh my god what was wrong with me that I didn’t think I was pretty?’ So embrace how you look. Enhance the things you want to enhance on your face. If you want thicker or darker eyebrows—I do mine in—that makes me very happy to give more of a focus to my face by doing that beautiful arched brow. That makes me feel much more attractive. My red lip of course. Embrace your beauty and what you have—and work with it.”

Q: I’m stressed out and busy all the time, Rose-Marie! Help.

Rose-Marie: “Pamper yourself! It balances the brain.”

Empower move from Rose-Marie:
“Taking care of yourself is so important. You want to enjoy yourself. You want to pamper yourself and do nice things for yourself because it makes you feel good. One of the things I love to do is meditate every once in a while. Even if you say the same thing over and over or do deep breathing or even humming, it just balances the brain and when you wake up from your meditation you feel so much more relaxed. Have a hot bath, put some Epsom salts in there to relax you. Just enjoy life.

Q: Any advice for going through a breakup?

Rose-Marie: "Release them into the universe with love."

Empower move from Rose-Marie:
Just move on. Don’t put your energy into someone when it’s not working. Because it’s just going to be painful in the long run for too long of a period of time. Move on. Release them into the universe with love.
