Let The Sun Shine In: An Interview with the Founders of Dôen

Our exclusive makeup set with DÔEN was born out of mutual admiration and a shared love of community. In fact, our founder and master makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift is a longtime fan of the Los Angeles-based fashion brand, “DÔEN clothing has the most sumptuous colors and the fabric quality is simply incomparable.”  Creating The RMS x DÔEN Sunkissed Set was a true collaboration, focused on celebrating and highlighting the natural beauty of women. We spoke to DÔEN founders (and sisters) Margaret and Katherine Kleveland about the vintage-inspired print used in The Sunkissed Set,  their forever muses, and why they chose RMS as their first-ever makeup collaboration.

What are each of your go-to makeup looks? 

We both like to keep things very natural—we’re always after that glowy, sunkissed look, and our love for a just-bitten red lip knows no bounds.

What inspired this RMS x DÔEN collaboration? 

Beauty plays an essential role in creating the emotional imagery we’re so passionate about. On set, we always look to create an organic and natural feel—a kiss of sun, a freshness that highlights the vibrance and natural beauty of the women we work with. The color we’ve created with RMS (and their collection as a whole!) does just that—enhances every skin tone and creates that go-to beauty look we’ve sought for so long.

What inspired the RMS x DÔEN color Berry? 

We wanted to create a shade that subtly accentuates the natural color of the lips and cheeks, imparting that just-bitten flush of color. It’s a shade that’s beautiful on all skin tones and can be worn every day, regardless of season—and we love the unfussy, multi-use format of the Lip2Cheek.

How does makeup complete a look? 

Makeup is a finishing touch; that last subtle shine. Even in its most understated form, it holds the power to amplify, enliven, and add a touch of personality.

What inspired you to start DÔEN? 

Our years of working in the fashion industry highlighted a lack of representation of women at the helm of brands—and the absence of an accessible, inviting, and beautiful brand that spoke to, empathized with, and listened to the customer. As new mothers, we set out to create a brand that would put women first and establish an intimate connection with our community, and we hope we’re doing just that with DÔEN.

Why RMS as your first makeup collaboration? 

As a pioneer of the clean beauty movement and a forward-thinking female business owner, Rose-Marie is an endless source of inspiration for us. We’re longtime fans of her organic, raw, food-grade products—and of her skin-first beauty philosophy. Collaborating with her is a dream come true.

We are in love with the Sunkissed Set pouch, tell us about the print! 

Hillside Bloom is an ode to spring’s bounty, a playful scattering of candy-pink blossoms and spring intended to uplift. It set the perfect backdrop for this collaboration!

Who are your muses? 

We’ve always been inspired by the women around us, those guiding and providing wisdom - our mother, the Collective of women who helped us to build the brand, our team, the women making our garments - the muses are endless and the inspiration is vast.
