The City Behind The Scent
Our founder and master makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift’s love of Savannah, GA runs deep so it’s no wonder it was the inspiration for her first fragrance collaboration with Heretic Parfum. Since we can’t let you sniff Scarlet Moon and its medley of citrus and lush green notes that make up the hauntingly beautiful aroma, we thought the next best thing would be to take you on a tour of Rose-Marie’s favorite city to help immerse you in the spirit of what started it all. Here’s what her version of a perfect day would look like.
Shop at Forsyth Park Green Market
“My perfect day starts on Saturday morning at Forsyth Park’s Green Market. All the farmers are there so I get really good meat for sweet Ruby Moon (her favorite is the duck from Vital Mission Farm) and the most fresh vegetables from Vertu Farms and Gannon Farms.”
Tea Time at Agatha’s Coffee and Tea House
“I’m a tea drinker, but the south loves its sweet tea so it can be hard to find a nice Earl Gray. The closest I’ve found in Savannah is at this tiny little place called Agatha’s. It’s so endearing inside and makes you feel like you’re stepping into the Victorian era.”
Lunch at Wyld Doc and Bar
“This is my favorite place to go because it’s not pretentious at all. It’s so peaceful and the dolphins come up to the marsh—it’s so nice. My go-to order: Sliced watermelon with oil, salt, and basil, and the fish tacos. But if I’m feeling really naughty I get the deep fried Georgia shrimp. If you’ve never had Georgia shrimp, it’s a must.”
Health Check at Brighter Day Health Food Store
“This place has been around since the 70s and they have the best stuff. Any sort of vitamin or supplement I need, I get it here—it’s the real deal.”
Antiquing at Seventh Heaven and Picker Joes
“There is great antiquing in Savannah. My tip is to buy what you like as soon as you find it—don’t wait or it’ll be gone. I also like to barter… but I’m guessing that won’t surprise anyone.”
Lillies from Carlstedt’s Flowers
“I always have white Lillies in my house and this is where I get them.”
Inspiration from Chatham Square
“I live right by Monterey Square but I prefer to go to Chatham Square. There’s nobody there and no statues or touristy things to draw a crowd. It has the biggest oak trees with Spanish moss that envelops the square like a huge umbrella, so it makes it very quiet and very grounded. I like to sit there barefooted, walk around barefooted and just ground myself. I especially like to go at night because there are lanterns hanging that make it feel a little spooky.”
Stay at Hotel Bardo
“People typically stay with me, that’s the southern way, but for people who don’t want to stay with me (or I’d rather them not), I suggest the new Bordeaux Hotel. It also has a lovely restaurant inside.”
